Carnes' Deed of Gift to RobertCarnes' Deed of Gift to Robert
This photocopy of Carnes' Deed of Gift to Robert was sent to me by Alex S. Thompson. At the top of p.76a of Tinnin Treks, the authors reproduced this deed, which appears to be a photocopy, and at the bottom of the document, where Carnes signs it, it states Carnes C Tinnin, but the "C" is a very elongated "C" and above the "C" it is written "his" and below the "C" is written "mark". On p.75 of Tinnin Treks, the authors transcribe the first part of this deed with, I believe, an error in the last phrase where it states "... but another 30 lbs to those who it should be left...". I don't think it states that from the photocopy on p.76a or from what is written in this photo but that is not the point of disagreement between researchers. Below "who it should be left..." on the same line with "Test: Jacob Lakes", the authors write "Carnes C. Tinnin" indicating a middle initial. Since "his mark" is written above and below the "C" I would have to submit to the argument that the "C" was his mark and not his middle initial.
